The incident happened around 9 pm on Friday when the victim, Harjinder Singh, a resident of Majri, was returning home from the UT police headquarter. As he reached near the Togan-Boothgarh main road, two bike-borne youths signalled him to stop and asked for direction. One of the youths then directed a spray into the cop’s eyes. In the meantime, two more youths came out of bushes and the four miscreants then assaulted the cop. They snatched his purse and fled the spot.

Mullanpur SHO Yogesh Kumar said, “On the victim’s statement, we have registered a case of snatching and assault against the four unidentified youths. We are scanning the CCTV footage of the area.” — TNS
