The City Beautiful has witnessed the highest rainfall in August in 16 years. Till now, 339 mm of rainfall has been recorded this month. According to the Chandigarh Meteorological Department, it was way back in 2004 when the city had seen 718-mm rainfall in the month of August, which is also the all-time record precipitation during the month. The average rainfall the city gets in the month of August is 280 mm.

The city had recorded 236.9-mm rainfall during this month in 2005, 209.4 mm in 2006, 272.9 mm in 2007, 291 mm in 2008 and 192.9 mm in 2009. The August 2012 saw significant rainfall of 321.1 mm. In 2018, the city received 304.6 mm of rainfall in August.

Expect clear sky till Aug 25

As per the weatherman, it is expected to be a clear sky with thin chances of light rain in the city till August 25. However, monsoon is likely to get active again at the end of this month. — TNS
