Chandigarh, June 23

Hockey Chandigarh, an affiliated unit of the Hockey India, celebrated Olympic Day at the Sector 42 Sports Complex today.

A two-minute silence was observed to pay tributes to YP Vohra, founder secretary of Chandigarh Olympic Association and former general secretary of Hockey Chandigarh, former Indian sprinter Milkha Singh, former Indian volleyball captain Nirmal Milkha Singh and Olympian Balbir Singh (Sr).

An online skill competition was organised in different categories to mark the day. More than 115 boys and girls participated in this online competition. Hockey Chandigarh awarded mementos and cash prizes of Rs5,100, Rs3,100 and Rs2,100 to first three position holders, respectively.

Devid Hasrat, Fateh Singh, Guntash Kaur, Rupinder Singh Preeti, Ranvir, Kavya, Sharandeep, Smriti Gill, Ankush Sonu, Rudra, Aparam, Damandeep, Tamanna, Deepak and Rajani bagged prizes.

Hockey Chandigarh also awarded international players/Olympians Gagan Ajit Singh, Rajpal Singh, Sardara Singh, Deepak Thakur, Prabhjot Singh, Baljit Singh, Inderjit Chadha and Dharamvir Singh. Olympian Rupinderpal Singh and Gurjant Singh, who are selected in the national team to take part in the upcoming Olympic Games 2021, were also awarded.

KK Yadav, Secretary (Sports) and Commissioner of MC; Dr Chander Shekhar, former DGP of Punjab and chief patron of Hockey Chandigarh; Tejdeep Singh Saini, Director Sports, and others were also present.

Chandigarh Olympic Association

The Chandigarh Olympic Association (COA) also celebrated Olympic Day at Lake Sports Complex. The theme of International Olympic Day 2021 was “Stay Healthy, Stay Strong, Stay Active”. Various sports associations conducted online sporting activities to mark the day.

Tributes were paid to eminent sports personalities who died recently. The Chandigarh Amateur Judo Association also celebrated the day.
