Chandigarh reported 310 new coronavirus cases on Saturday—the highest infection numbers the union territory has seen since last October.

The city has 3,162 active cases—the most cases seen this year.

Tricity collectively saw 889 new coronavirus cases on Friday—the highest since the COVID-19 outbreak last March.

Chandigarh, as well as Mohali and Panchkula, has steadily reported a rise in case since the beginning of last month. March saw active COVID-19 cases go up 765 per cent in the union territory. Last week, the union health ministry’s data showed Chandigarh’s positivity rate was 11.95 per cent—second only to Maharashtra (22.78 per cent).
