Chandigarh: An unidentified person has been booked by the Chandigarh Police for duping a city resident of Rs 1 lakh. Complainant Dr Gaurav Sharma reported to the police the accused cheated him in lieu of medical treatment. A case has been registered at the Cyber Crime police station. TNS

Man held with 107 gm heroin

Chandigarh: The Operation Cell of Chandigarh Police has arrested a Sector 45 resident for possessing heroin. The accused, identified as Jagdeep Singh (36), was nabbed from Sector 32 for possessing 107 gm heroin. The police have registered a case under the NDPS Act against the accused at the Sector 34 police station. TNS

Licences of 4 firms revoked

Mohali: The Mohali administration on Friday revoked the licences of four immigration firms - Gunveer Immigration, Mataur, Fly Roots, Phase 3B2, Safe Hand Immigration and Studies, North Country Mall, and Rightway Immigration and Services Consultancy, Phase 7, - under the Punjab Travel Professional Regulation Act, 2012. The heads of the firms have been directed to stop the work completely. TNS

Gupta elected Rotary Club chief

Chandigarh: Rotary Club, Chandigarh Uptown, organised a ceremony for the installation of president Ajay Gupta, secretary Arun Kamboj and the others members of the new team of the club for 2022-23. At the ceremony, the newly elected president, Gupta shared the club’s vision and projects to be undertaken for the year. He said their focus would continue to be on women adult literacy, girl child education, e-waste management, artificial limb donation, blood donation, awareness on organ donation and improving female membership in the club. Man held with drug

Mohali: The police arrested Balwinder Singh of Phase 7 with 55-gm narcotic powder and 10 suspicious pouches on Friday. A case under the NDPS Act has been registered against him.

Civic body impounds 22 head of cattle

Chandigarh: The Municipal Corporation on Friday impounded 22 head of cattle from Mauli Jagran and Vikas Nagar here. Following complaints from residents, the MC teams impounded 22 animals. Under the Cattle Trespass Act, the MC levies a fine of Rs 20,000 and Rs 3,000 for a cattle and calf, respectively, after impounding them. It also levies a fine of Rs 500 and Rs 300, respectively, on a daily basis for fodder up to seven days and if no one claims the animals, they are shifted to gaushalas in the city. — TNS
