Chandigarh sees 67% dip in cases in October

Records 2,480 infections against 7,592 reported in September

The month of October witnessed a fall of 67 per cent in the number of Covid-19 cases reported in the city.

The UT had witnessed the infection peak last month when 250 cases were being reported on a daily basis. The number of cases reported this month is even lower than the count of August. While 7,592 cases were reported in September, a total of 3,295 persons contracted the virus in the city in the month of August.

This month, the city recorded only 2,480 cases. The average number of cases reported daily this month is 75.

The number of deaths due to the virus also saw a decline of about 40 per cent as compared to September.

The city has recorded 12,122 cases per million population, while the national average is 6,069. For every 10 lakh people, as many as 89,405 samples were tested in the city. Last week, the number of new infections grew by an average 0.5 per cent every day.

A week-wise analysis of the positivity rate in October showed that it was high at 14 per cent in the first week and dropped to 7.5 per cent in the following week. The third week showed a further decline of 5.9 per cent. However, 6.5 per cent positivity rate was observed in the fourth week.
