Chandigarh selects shooting team for Uttarakhand meet
Chandigarh: The Chandigarh Rifle Association has selected the local shooting contingent for the coming Uttarakhand National Games. The squad comprises Mahit Sandhu (50m 3p rifle and 10m air rifle), Harsh Singla (50m 3P rifle), Baburam (10m air pistol), Ktishdha (10m and 25m pistol), Devansh Vashishtha (25m pistol), Saurya Raghav (10m air rifle), Uday Pratap Rana (trap event) and Vikas Prasad (coach).
Netball trials on February 2
Chandigarh: The Netball Sports Promotion Association will organise trials to select the local team for the 37th Junior, 3rd 5-Junior and 1st Mix Junior National Championships for boys and girls. The trials will be conducted on the Panjab University campus on February 2 (11 am) for players born on or after March 1, 2006. The national meet is scheduled to be held from February 23 to March 2 at Bhiwani (Haryana).
City cricketer felicitated
Chandigarh: Aditi Sheoran, a member of the UTCA women’s cricket team was felicitated by the Haryana Government during the Republic Day function in Sonepat. The award was presented by Minister of Social Justice and Empowerment Krishan Kumar Bedi. Aditi, a student of Carmel Convent School, Sector 9, represented the local U-19 women’s cricket team.
Autograph collector honoured
Chandigarh: Dharam Vir Duggal, who is the “nation’s best” collector of autographed cricket bats, was awarded a letter of appreciation at the 76th Republic Day celebrations by the Chandigarh Municipal Corporation. He was felicitated by the Mayor and the MC Commissioner. Having a world record title for collecting a maximum of autographed bats, Duggal is well known in the cricket fraternity.
Softball meet from Feb 8
Chandigarh: The Chandigarh Softball Association will organise the 42nd Senior Chandigarh State Championship from February 8 to 9 at the Sector 13 Sports Complex. During the championship, the organisers will select local teams for the Senior National Softball Championship to be held in Nagpur from February 22 to 26.
Technical officials appointed
Chandigarh: Chandigarh’s Ashwani Kumar, Suneel Kumar and Riya Kaushik have been appointed technical officials for lawn bowls event at the 38th National Games to be held in Dehradun. The lawn bowling event will be organised from January 31 to February 8.
Aarav adjudged best athlete
Chandigarh: Athletes of Kundan International School, Sector 46, won a rich haul of medals during the Annual Athletics Meet of the UT Education Department. They won seven gold medals and one silver. Aarav Sharma was adjudged the best athlete. He won top position in the 800m, 1500m and 5000m races.
SBI cricket meet concludes
Chandigarh: On the concluding day of the SBI OA Chandigarh Circle 2nd Cricket Tournament, Bathinda defeated Jammu by 90 runs. Kamalpreet Singh was named man of the match, man of tournament and best batsman. Vijay was adjudged best bowler. In the semifinals, Jammu defeated Rohtak by five wickets and Bathinda defeated Shimla by six wickets. Krishan Sharma, CGM SBI, Chandigarh Circle, inaugurated the tournament.
Shivam, Aarav shine in yoga
Chandigarh: Students of PML SD Public School, Sector 32, won medals in the 4th Yoga Dhara Championship. Shivam claimed first position in the artistic yoga and third in the team asana. Aarav Mahajan claimed first position in the artistic yoga and third in traditional yoga.
Wheelchair cricket tournament
Chandigarh: the Women and Child Care Welfare Foundation (WCCWF) will organise T10 Interstate Wheelchair Cricket Tournament, in collaboration with the Institute of Development & Communication, Chandigarh; and the Jan Shikshan Sansthan, Mohali, from February 1 to 2. The matches will be held at Government Model Senior Secondary School, Sector 26.
