Chandigarh Sports Department hikes grant for players, associations

The UT Administration has approved an increase in the travelling allowance and diet money for local players representing the city at outstation events, and a two-fold hike in the allocation of grants to the local sports associations for conducting various championships and hosting national/international tournaments.

The enhanced financial assistance was approved during a meeting of the executive committee of the UT Sports Department recently. Players will be now get Rs 100 refreshment each for tournaments and competitions, while the diet money has been increased to Rs 750 per player/official. The budget for kits has been increased to Rs 2,500 per player/official. The local teams will now be eligible to travel in the 3rd AC (economy)/AC chair car/AC bus for outstation tournaments.

The local associations will now get a grant of Rs 60,000 each for conducting sub-junior state, junior state and senior state championships. In case of north zone meet, the grant will be Rs 2 lakh. The sports body will get Rs 4 lakh for hosting a national championship, and Rs 5 lakh for an international meet.

“There was a need for enhancement in grants. The issue was raised by associations and also by other stakeholders. Besides revising the grants, the allowances for players and their budget for purchasing kits have also been increased,” said Sorabh Kumar Arora, Director Sports.

The conditions for releasing the grants remain unchanged. It will be provided to the association concerned as per the procedure laid down by the Chandigarh Sports Council as well as completion of necessary formalities and complying with the National Sports Development Code, 2011, and Rules and Regulation of the Olympic Charter.

The grant will be released to the associations affiliated with Chandigarh Olympic Association or the Chandigarh Sports Council as per constitution, and as per the association’s national body affiliation with the Indian Olympic Association (IOA) and the Ministry of Youth Affairs & Sports.
