The Chandigarh-B Team registered a commanding win over Sikkim by an innings and 117 runs in their 1st Balramji Dass Tandon U-16 Multi-Day Cricket Tournament, at DAV School, Sector 8. Batting first, Chandigarh-B posted 240/7 before declaring the innings. Kunwar Jhamb (81) and skipper Adhiraaj (69) remained the main scorers for the side.
In reply, the Sikkim lads were bowled out for 102 in their first innings, as Yuvraj (5/18) claimed a fifer, and Aditya Malik picked 2/17. Arihanta Sachdeva (58) remained the main scorer for the visiting side.
Forced to follow-on, Sikkim’s batting collapsed completely in their second innings. The visitors were bundled out at 21 in 16 overs as Yuvraj (3/6), Gunn Vardhan Jain (3/1) and Malik (2/3) shared wickets. Jain struck early in the opening innings, picking up a wicket in just 0.3 overs. But it was in the second innings that the 15-year-old bowler truly announced his arrival — scalping three wickets for just one run in three overs. The Class 10 student of St John’s School, Sector 26, is one of the promising young spinners. Shrishant Pokhrel (7) and Chopel Sherpa (5) made some notable contributions.
Meanwhile, at GMSSS-26, Punjab, registered a convincing an innings and 109-run win over Jammu & Kashmir. After opting to field, Punjab’s bowlers bundled out Jammu & Kashmir at 79 in the first innings. Skipper Sahibjot Attal (4/11) and Varun Khatri (4/9) did major damages. Punjab then piled up 292/6, led by captain Attal’s magnificent innings of 101 runs. Following on, the Jammu & Kashmir batters collapsed at 104. Khatri (4/33) was the pick of the bowlers.
