Chandigarh traffic police launch road safety drive to mark World Bicycle Day

To mark World Bicycle Day 2025, the Chandigarh Traffic Police conducted a Road Safety Campaign at Labour Chowk. The initiative, held under the guidance of DGP Raj Kumar Singh and SSP Security and Traffic, Sumer Pratap Singh, aimed to promote safer roads and sustainable transport.

Over 500 reflective tapes were attached to bicycles, rickshaws, and handcarts to enhance visibility, especially for non-motorised road users.

The campaign saw active participation from local workers and community members, with support from Anand Sales (India) and the Labour Union of Sector 44.

The participants were briefed on important traffic laws, including the Motor Vehicles Act (amended in 2019), Central Motor Vehicles Rules (1989), and Driving Regulations (2017). Emphasis was placed on obeying traffic signals, using cycle tracks, and respecting pedestrian crossings.

Participants were also encouraged to adopt eco-friendly practices such as cycling, carpooling, and switching off engines at red lights. A road safety pledge was administered, reaffirming their commitment to responsible road usage and community welfare.
