Chandigarh Transport Undertaking outsourced staff who went on strike sacked
Action taken for violating Essential Services Maintenance Act orders
The UT Transport Department today terminated the services of nearly 100 outsourced employees who took part in a strike.
The strike call was given by the outsourced employees of the Chandigarh Transport Undertaking (CTU) and Chandigarh City Bus Service Society. To cope with the situation, some employees operating interstate buses were deputed on the city buses. Officials said no Tricity route was affected due to the strike.
The Essential Services Maintenance Act (ESMA) was invoked as it was already envisioned that the employees may go on strike.
Nearly 100 outsourced employees who participated in the strike by violating the ESMA orders have been sacked by directing the outsourcing agency.
Further, the bus operators, whose drivers participated in the strike, have been issued notices that action would be taken against them.
