Chandigarh, June 14

A local court has rejected the bail application of a woman arrested with heroin near the Punjab Roadways Workshop in the Industrial Area, Phase 1, here on January 20.

The police had arrested the woman, identified as Poonam, along with another person while they were travelling in a Swift Dzire car.

As per the prosecution, the police recovered 404.2 gm of heroin from the woman and around 205.9 gm of the contraband from the suspect, identified as Sandeep Khatri.

Seeing the police, they had tried to escape, but were apprehended. The police claimed that the international market value of the recovered heroin was around Rs 2 crore.

The counsel for the accused said the woman was falsely implicated in the case and was now in custody since January 20 and the trial will take long time.

On the other hand, the public prosecutor opposed the bail by arguing that the quantity of heroin recovered from the woman was commercial.

After hearing of the arguments, the court rejected the bail application of the accused.
