Chandigarh XI post victory in hockey

The Chandigarh XI recorded a 3-2 win over Food Corporation of India, Delhi, during the 1st All-India Senior Men’s Hockey Tournament being played at the Olympian Balbir Singh Hockey Stadium here.

Skipper Gurjinder Singh converted an early penalty corner in the 5th minute to put the local side ahead. However, the lead was cancelled as Delhi posted two goals. In the 18th minute, Paramvir Singh sounded the wooden plank via penalty corner conversion, while Manasrij Boro made it 1-2 in favour of the Delhi team in the 23rd minute.

The local lads got their act together, and levelled the score in the 31st minute, as Maninder Singh scored a field goal, and Kanwaljeet Singh posted the winning goal in the 51st minute.

In the second match, AG XI Punjab recorded an identical 3-2 win over Punjab & Sind Bank, Jalandhar. The AG XI goals came through skipper Gurjant Singh in the 50th minute, Gurjeet Singh (58th minute) and Gurjeet, who converted a penalty stroke into goal.
