Chandigarh XI stun Indian AF 3-1

Chandigarh, April 10

Chandigarh XI stunned hosts Indian Air Force (IAF) 3-1 on the inaugural day of the 4th edition of Marshal of the Air Force Arjan Singh Memorial Hockey Tournament being organised by Air Force Sports Control Board at Raghbir Singh Bhola Hockey Stadium in the 3 BRD Air Force Station here.

Raman scored a brace for the winners. He sounded the wooden plank in the 12th minute by converting a penalty corner and doubled the lead in the 31st minute through a field goal. Harpanthpreet Singh scored another field goal in the 50th minute. After claiming a three-goal lead, Chandigarh XI played defensive hockey. Meanwhile, the hosts pulled off a lone consolation goal in the 56th minute.

Chandigarh goalie Bikramjit Singh was adjudged Man of the Match.

Meanwhile, Ajinkya Jadhav scored two goals as Indian Navy defeated Punjab and Sind Bank 2-0. Jadhav netted the first goal in the 39th minute followed by another in the 57th minute.

Punjab Police defeated Indian Army 2-0 in another one-sided match. Vainer Singh scored the first goal in the 15th minute, while Pawandeep Singh scored the second in the 55th minute. RCF Kapurthala outclassed Royal Air Force 6-0 as Ajmer Singh scored three and Karanpal scored two goals. Ajmer started the goal spree in the 24th minute, while Pavan Madivalar doubled the lead in the 26th minute. Ajmer netted his second in the 37th minute and Karanpal scored two back-to-back goals in 44th and 48th minute. In the 54th minute, Ajmer netted the final goal.

The tournament is being organised to celebrate the 104th birth anniversary of Marshal of the Air Force Arjan Singh. Air Marshal Vibhas Pande, Air Officer Commanding-in-Chief, Maintenance Command, announced the championship open.

“We are delighted to be back with the prestigious tournament in the country. It will provide a platform to the elite hockey teams of the country and the Indian Air Force will ensure that no stone is left unturned in the smooth conduct of the event,” said Pande.
