Chandigarh’s Mahajan to train young b’minton coaches

For the second consecutive time this year, the Badminton Association of India (BAI) has entrusted former international coach and Chandigarh-based Surinder Mahajan as a senior lecturer for the BAI Coaches Development Programme (grassroots level), scheduled to be held at Raipur, Chhattisgarh, from June 14 to 22. Earlier, he headed a similar camp in February, wherein country’s more than 100 budding coaches got training from him.

Mahajan, who was recently elevated as senior vice-president (administration), Chandigarh Badminton Association, and joint secretary, Badminton Association of India, had earlier headed BAI coaching development programme for amateur coaches as an expert. “I am thankful to the BAI for appointing me as a senior lecturer for this programme. Such camps will not only benefit youngsters, but will also provide them with a platform to interact with senior coaches,” he said.

During this programme, various aspects, including theoretical syllabus, training method, psychology, knowledge and precautions of sports injury and technical developments, will be taught.

After retiring, he is still giving guidance to players at the Sector 38 sports complex.
