The other accused against whom charges have been framed include constables Varinder, Shiv Kumar and a private person, Varinder Singh Gill.
Earlier, the police had filed the charge-sheet against the accused for offences punishable under Sections 365, 386, 420, 506, 120, 389 and 364 A of the IPC.
A case was registered on the complaint of Sanjay Goyal, a businessman from Bathinda, against Naveen Phogat and others. Goyal alleged that Phogat and other persons had forcefully taken Rs 1.01 crore from him at Sector 40 market on August 4, 2023, which he brought for exchange. The complainant said three men — one of them in police uniform — took him and his driver to the police beat box in Sector 40. They took entire amount from the businessman and threatened to implicate him in a false case and asked him to leave. When Sajay Goyal resisted, they also allegedly threatened to kill him.
