Charges framed against taxi driver for rape, murder of MBA student in Chandigarh

A local court has framed charges against a taxi driver, Monu Kumar, in a 15-year-old rape and murder case of an MBA student. The court framed the charges against the accused for offences punishable under Sections 302 and 376 of the IPC.

The police had registered the case against an unknown person after the body of a 21-year-old girl was found on July 30, 2010, in the forest area of Sector 38, Chandigarh.

The police registered the case on the complaint of the father of the girl, who said his daughter left the house around 6 pm on a scooter for Sector 15 to attend English speaking class. When she did not return till 9 pm, he called his daughter’s friends, who had no information. Thereafter, a search was launched, but she could not be located.

Later, he received a call from a friend of her daughter, who said her scooter was found parked near a taxi stand, Sector 38 (West) with blood stains. They reached Karan Taxi Stand and found that her daughter was lying in a pool of blood in the bushes. She was taken to the PGI, where the doctor declared her brought dead.

The police conducted investigation, but no clue was found regarding the accused and so an untraced report was filed. The case was solved when the accused was arrested in another blind murder case of a woman in 2022 in the same area. In this case also the body of the woman was found in the same forest area. The police claimed that during the course of investigation the accused confessed to the murder of the MBA student.

His medical was conducted from the GMSH, Sector 16, Chandigarh. His DNA sample and specimen signatures have been taken and the same have been sent to the CFSL, Sector 36, Chandigarh. The report is yet to be received.

Charges framed against gym trainer

Special judge, fast track court, Chandigarh, has framed charges against 28-year-old gym trainer Sawan Bhatti, who was arrested on the allegation of raping a girl in Sector 16 park. The police registered the case against the accused on the complaint of a woman and arrested him on July 1.

The woman said on May 20, she was sitting in the park in Sector 16. The lights went out and it became dark, so she decided to move out. Suddenly, one person grabbed her from behind and covered her mouth with his hand. He threatened her with a knife and sexually assaulted her. After nearly two months the police were able to arrest the accused with the help of the CCTV cameras.
