Chandigarh Golf League: Aces defeat 2-time champs Captain’s 18

Punjab Aces stunned two-time champions Captain’s 18 with a 5-2 scoreline in a dramatic match of the the Chandigarh Golf League being played at the Chandigarh Golf Club here.

Mivaan Singh of Aces came back from 4 holes down at one stage to win 1-Up on the final hole. TG Grewal held Bhupinder Singh Mundh held a tie with two birdies on the final two holes. The only game won by Captain’s 18 was courtesy Sukhpal Singh Sangha and Baljinder Singh Sidhu with a 2-1 in the first four ball game. After that the Aces derived momentum from the singles, Jaskirat Dulet and Rupinder Singh pair won 2-Up, while Rao Birender Sidhu and Dhruv Gupta with the pair of Balpreet Ghuman and Gursharan Grewal also won 1-Up.

In the second match, Tee Birds recorded 5-2 win over Signature Chiefs. Birds made the most of their opponent’s form as Brig HPS Dhillon and Rahul Batra led from the start with 5-3 and 4-2 wins. Arun Gupta and Gurjeet Bhattal combined to win 4-3, followed by a four-ball finish game won by Vinay Swaroop Bhan and Gurmeet Makkar. The Chiefs got two points with the help of Rusy Kohli and Zorawar Singh (3-2) and Col Gurbir Singh Gill and Hanima Grewal (4-2)

The Mulligans got the better of Pirates of the Greens 4.5-2.5. The winners entrusted a changed line up after the reverse in their previous match with Sultan Matharoo going against Kabir Dhaliwal for a draw in the first singles. Bismad Singh won his singles 3-1 while Amrinder Singh and Jaskeerat Kaur Matharoo bagged a 3-1 win. Angad Matharoo and APS Kahai pulled a huge 6-4 result in their favour as the returning Gauhar Pruthi combined with Surinder Jit Singh for a 2-Up win. For the Pirates, skipper Amandeep Bhaika and Brig JS Chatha won 2-1 while Maninder Pal Singh and Col Gurpreet Singh logged 3-1 to end with a total of 24 points.

Empire were held by Seven Iron as they escaped with a tied scoreline. Dilsher Grewal won 2-Up after Himmat Singh Sandhu had put them ahead with a 4-3 win. Col HS Brar and Dr Agnish Rajesh carded a comfortable 5-4 win as did the pair of Dalbir Singh Randhawa and Harpal Singh (4-3). In the final game, Muneet Jakhar and Ashray Gakhar held on the 1-Up.
