Cheap liquor in bottles of high-end brands, 3 held by Chandigarh police
Chandigarh, July 12
Three persons, including a manager of a bottling plant, have been arrested by the District Crime Cell (DCC) of the UT police for allegedly filling bottles of expensive and imported liquor brands with cheap liquor and selling these at discounted rates to unsuspecting customers.
A total of 46 bottles of the Chivas Regal scotch whiskey filled with cheap liquor have been seized from the accused.
Acting on a tip-off about illegal liquor sale in the city, the police had set up a checkpoint in Sector 20 and apprehended Raja Seth, a 29-year-old resident of Sector 47. Seth, who works as a manager at a bottling plant, had 18 bottles of scotch whiskey in his car
Excise officials were called to the scene to verify the seized liquor. The whole seizure was recorded on camera. A case was subsequently registered at the Sector 19 police station.
Further investigation led to the arrest of Seth’s accomplices — 31-year-old Ravi, a resident of Dariya; and 24-year-old Gurusagar, a resident of Sector 38.
Gurusagar, who works as a manager at a beer plant, and Ravi both were found in possession of 14 bottles each.
The police are investigating from where the accused could have procured the empty bottles and where these were filled with cheap liquor.
A police official said, “We are investigating the supply chain and operational methods of the accused.”
All three accused were produced in the court today. The court remanded them in police custody for two days.
