Checkposts set up in Mohali, Rupnagar to check on peddlers
The police launched a special check on all inter-state borders of the district bordering, setting up various checkposts today.
Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) Deepak Pareek while inspecting the checkpost laid at UT Border near Jagatpura, said as a part of the “war on drugs” campaign, a cordon and search operation and ‘Seal’ were being carried out side by side. Besides, operations to identify suspicious persons, checking of medical shops are also being conducted to rule out the supply and sale of drugs in the district.
Similarly, campaign SAMPARK is also underway to make a rapport with the residents to sensitise them about the drugs menace and criminals.
Apprising of the last year’s FIRs lodged in the district under the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances Act, the SSP said around 350 cases have been registered wherein 450 drug traffickers were arrested.
Punjab has become the first state having the huge figure of Rs 700 cr seizure of properties procured or constructed with drug money.
In Rupnagar, SSP Gulneet Singh Khurana inspected inter-state check posts under Operation Seal at Sri Anandpur Sahib including Dherowal village near the Himachal border.
He said that vehicles are being checked at seven check posts in the district so that action can be taken against drug smugglers at every level.
Inter-state checkpoints are being set up in the entire state under Operation Seal.
Seven inter-state checkpoints have been set up in the Rupnagar district today, where he personally carried out inspections.
As part of the larger to identify and arrest drug traffickers in Rupnagar district, a “Yudh Nashian Virudh” campaign is being run from March 1 to March 31.
