Panchkula, March 15
The downpour on Saturday led to waterlogging in the Sector 6 market, courtesy choked drains.
Jeewan Aggarwal, president of the Residents’ Welfare Association (RWA), Sector 6, said, “We have approached the Municipal Corporation authorities time and again with regard to accumulation of water in and around the Sector 6 market during rainy season, but to no avail.”
“Two drains passing close to the market have been choked due to some sugarcane juice vendors leaving their waste behind. I had asked the civic body officials to cleanse these, but nothing has been done so far,” he said.
Upon being asked, Municipal Corporation Commissioner-cum-Administrator Sumedha Kataria said she will be looking into the matter for redressal.
NK Payal, XEN (Civil), Haryana Shehri Vikas Pradhikaran, said his department had no role to play in it. “Storm-water management system and roads are with the Municipal Corporation. Only water supply and sewerage system fall within our jurisdiction,” he said.
A chemist shop owner requesting anonymity said, “Even moderate rain leads to waterlogging in the market, causing inconvenience to residents and shopkeepers.”
