Chrysanthemum exhibition begins at varsity, 150 varieties on display

The 12th Chrysanthemum Exhibition, organised by the Horticulture Division of the PU, was inaugurated by PU VC Prof Raj Kumar at Prof RC Paul Rose Garden here today.

The exhibition will end on December 15. Prof Shankarji Jha, Dean of University Instruction, presided over the function. Prof Karamjeet Singh, Registrar, was the guest of honour.

The VC appreciated the efforts of the Horticulture Division. He said: “The PU has not only set high standards in academics and sports but also in environment conservation.”

The exhibition had about 150 varieties of chrysanthemum and about 4,200 potted plants on display. Seven new varieties — Sonali, Sapna, Mushtak, Parveen, Mahatma, Dorris, Freshman and Alfred — were added this year.

Dr Gurmeet Singh, Chairperson, Department of Hindi, Prof Tirthankar Bhattacharya, Chairperson, Department of Art History & Visual Arts, Prof Ravneet Kaur, Warden, Girls’ Hostel No 3, Renuka B Salwan, Director, Public Relations, and Honey Thakur, Senior Assistant, also displayed their chrysanthemum plants at the exhibition. The visitors appreciated the arrangements and were seen getting photographs clicked.

The event was attended and appreciated by faculty members, non-teaching employees, students and general public.
