The Chandigarh Congress paid rich tributes to father of the nation Mahatma Gandhi and former Prime Minister Lal Bahadur Shastri on their anniversaries at the Congress Bhawan in Sector 35 today.

Speaking on the occasion, Chandigarh MP Manish Tewari stated that during freedom struggle Mahatma Gandhi brought people belonging to diverse cultural, religious and economic groups living across the length and breadth of the country, under one umbrella and laid the foundation of an inclusive, secular and socialist India.

He said Mahatma Gandhi is praised the world over for his humanitarian philosophy and his message of Sarv Dharam Sambhav, universal brotherhood, peace and non-violence.

Tewari also lauded the role that former Prime Minister Lal Bahadur Shastri played during the 1965 war, where India secured an emphatic victory over Pakistan.

Stating that the teachings of Gandhi are even more relevant today, city Congress president HS Lucky stressed upon the need to inculcate his message in our lives.
