Chandigarh cops warned against committing traffic violations, to face action for breach

The order follows reports that some police personnel have been observed flouting traffic rules, with incidents captured by the media and published in newspapers, damaging the force’s public image

The Chandigarh Police have issued a strict directive to all officers, warning them against committing traffic violations while driving, whether in uniform or civilian clothes, in official or private vehicles.

The order follows reports that some police personnel have been observed flouting traffic rules, with incidents captured by the media and published in newspapers, damaging the force’s public image.

In a circular signed by the Deputy Superintendent of Police, Traffic Administration & South West, it was emphasised that under Section 210(B) of the Motor Vehicles Act, offences committed by an enforcing authority carry double the penalty.

The order makes it clear that any such misconduct, if reported, will attract departmental action against the official concerned and non-compliance will be taken seriously. Copies of the directive have been sent to all Traffic DSPs and the Inspector, Traffic Administration, for strict enforcement.
