City girls record seven-wkt win

Manisha Badhan and Kumari Shibi claimed three wickets each to help Chandigarh register a comfortable seven-wicket win over Jammu & Kashmir in the women’s Senior One Day Trophy match at the CAP Ground in Puducherry today.
Chandigarh skipper Amanjot Kaur won the toss and put Jammu & Kashmir to bat first. Her decision was later leveraged by the city bowlers as they bowled out Jammu & Kashmir for 130 runs in 49.5 overs. The city eves got the first success as Nandani Sharma accounted for Jaspreet Kour for a duck.
Thereafter, Sandhya raised a 37-run partnership for the 2nd wicket with Sarla Devi. The duo had the innings move at a slow pace before Sarla fell first to Shibi. She scored 26 off 37 balls, with five boundaries. Sandhya (3), meanwhile, was run out by Parul Saini after facing 31 balls to make an inconspicuous contribution to the total, whereas Shibi struck again as she claimed Nadia Chowdhary for a naught to reduce the side to 44/4.
Jammu & Kashmir skipper Meenu Singh Salathia then joined Insha Bashir to raise a 23-run partnership. The duo took 13 overs before Insha (6 off 44 balls) fell prey to Nandani Sharma. Meenu then raised another important partnership of 27 runs with Rubia Syed before she became third victim of Shibi. The skipper scored 32 off 90 balls, studded with five boundaries, to remain the highest scorer for the side.
Meanwhile, Rubia continued the innings and with the help of Bismah Hassan pushed the total over 100-run mark. They raised a 26-run partnership before Manisha took her first wicket — Rubia (28 off 52 balls, with two boundaries and one six).
Manisha then claimed Bismah (12) and Aditi Aryan (4) to put Jammu & Kashmir on the back foot. Sheerazah Banoo (2) was the last one standing for Jammu & Kashmir innings but she was run out by Suman. Abraq Zahoor (2) remained unbeaten as Jammu & Kashmir posted 130 runs in 49.5 overs.
Manisha claimed her share of three wickets for 8 runs, whereas Shibi completed her spell with 3/23. Nandani (2/24) was another main performer for Chandigarh.
In reply, the city girls had an easy outing as they posted 133/3 in 33.5 overs. Though the side lost an early wicket of Parul Saini for a duck — she was bowled out by Bismah Hassan. But Monika Pandey and skipper Amanjot managed to pick up the pieces to hand the team a good start. The duo completed an 87-run partnership before the skipper was caught by Insha off Sandhya. Amanjot posted 45 off 60 balls, studded with six boundaries.
Priyanka Guleria then joined Monika to raise another important partnership of 32 runs. Sarla took Monika’s wicket on the team’s total of 121 runs. The opener scored 38 off 82 balls, with six boundaries. Priyanka (25 off 50 balls, with three boundaries) and Ambu (6) scored unbeaten contributions to assure Chandigarh the triumph. Bismah (1/20), Sarla (1/14) and Sandhya (1/37) were the main performers with the ball for Jammu & Kashmir.
