City hosts road safety campaign
Nehru Yuva Kendra, in collaboration with the Chandigarh Traffic Police, organised a series of events under the Urban Road Safety Campaign, part of the 36th National Road Safety Month 2025. The campaign aimed at promoting responsible driving practices and reducing accidents.
The five-day campaign, led by District Youth Officer Sanjana Vatts and SSP, Security and Traffic, Sumer Pratap Singh, engaged over 800 youth volunteers from schools, colleges and youth clubs. Events included workshops, nukkad nataks and a Walkathon, with the opening ceremony held at Sukhna Lake on January 17.
Awareness sessions were conducted at various locations, including Hallomajra on January 18, Post Graduate Government College for Girls, Sector 42, on January 20, and Jawahar Navodaya Vidyalaya on January 22.
The closing ceremony, held today at Post Graduate Government College, Sector-11, featured a workshop, skit, and a Walkathon flagged off by SSP Sumer Pratap Singh. Over 150 NSS volunteers, students and staff participated, promoting road safety rules such as proper parking, lane discipline and helmet use.
A Road Safety Exhibition Van displayed real-life examples of accidents to emphasise the importance of adhering to traffic rules.
