A collective last push by Tamil Nadu bowlers R Sai Kishore and Ajith Ram helped the hosts to record a 209-win over Chandigarh, during the Ranji Trophy in Salem. Needing 290-run with five wickets in hand, the Chandigarh side was bundled out for 193 in their second innings.

Batting first, the hosts had posted 301. In reply, Chandigarh lads managed to get 204 on the score board with the help of Shivam Bhambri’s ton.

The hosts extended the lead with a strong 305/5 in the second innings.

The Chandigarh batters, however, faltered, with skipper Manan Vohra’s unbeaten 100 off 131 balls, which six boundaries and six sixes, failing to pull his side up. He did not find any support from the other batters of the team.

Kishore returned with 4/62, while Ram accounted 4/89 for the hosts. M Mohammed, meanwhile, also claimed one wicket.

Punjab go down against Karnataka

Meanwhile, the team from Punjab also faced a 207-run and an innings defeat against Karnataka.

In reply to Punjab ‘s first innings total of 55, Karnataka scored 475.

Koushik claimed four wickets, while Abhilash Sheety picked three to destroy Punjab batting line-up in their first innings. M Prasidh claimed two and Yashovardhan Parantap picked one.

In their second innings, Punjab batters bettered their performance, but only to score 213.

Skipper Shubhman Gill emerged as the better performers of the side by contributing 102 off 171 balls, with 14 boundaries and three sixes.

On the bowlers’ side, Parantap and Shreyas Gopal picked three wickets each for the bowling side, while Prasidh picked two and Koushik and Sheety bagged one each.
