City tableau selected for R-Day parade
After a decade, a tableau of the city will be showcased at the Republic Day parade in Delhi this time.
The Centre on Saturday approved the tableau proposals of 15 states and Union Territories, including Chandigarh, for the Republic Day parade at Kartavya Path.
The city’s last tableau was selected for the 2014 parade. Several models proposed by the Chandigarh Administration had reached the final stages of selection but were rejected since then.
The tableau for the 2025 parade has been designed by a team of experts from the Government College of Art. It includes the sculpture of a man making videos at the local Japanese Garden and a section on the Rock Garden. The side panel will showcase the façade of the Vidhan Sabha juxtaposed with a mosaic mural design. The back half of the side panel will have a picture of the Floating Solar Panels of Dhanas Lake, which is the largest floating solar lake of India.
The Gandhi Bhavan, designed by Pierre Jeanneret; Rooster Bird Fountain of the Sector 17 Plazza, cycle tracks and public-bike sharing project will also feature on the tableau. The city has 300 km cycle tracks, which is again the largest track among all states and UTs.
