A Class II boy of a Sector 21-based private school was allegedly forced to eat food which he had inadvertently spilled on the floor. The details were shared in a complaint by the father of the child, after which the school authorities tendered an apology.
He complained to the Principal that on Friday, his son inadvertently spilled food from his tiffin box on the floor. The boy’s teacher asked him to eat the spilled food. When the boy expressed reluctance to eat the soiled food, the teacher reprimanded him and made the student pick the food from the floor and eat it.
The parent said the child came home crying and was visibly under enormous mental stress. The family visited the school to complain against the inhuman treatment meted out to the child. They claimed that the school staff did not allow the family to meet the principal and only made the teacher feel apologetic.
‘All the school staff need to be sensitised that such incidents are not repeated in future with any student of the school,” the parent urges in the complaint.
The Principal gave an immediate response, saying that he was briefed about the incident the same day, and admitted that the teacher had committed the unworthy act. The response from Principal reads: “There is no second opinion about it that the teacher in question has done something unworthy. But an apology from her side assured me that she will not repeat it as she has a good record in the past. She has been given guidance and warning as per my assessment.”
However, the boy’s parents told The Tribune that they would approach the Chandigarh Commission for Protection of Child Rights (CCPCR) in case no action was taken against the teacher concerned.
