Class X, XII results: Sportspersons form city shine in academics too

Several local sportspersons, who have bagged laurels at national and international events, proved their mettle in academics by scoring high in the CBSE Class 10 and 12 examinations, results of which were declared yesterday.

In the Class XII examinations, fencer Dilisha Kaur scored 97.4% marks in the humanities stream. She has won a number of medals in state open championships. Cricketer Anjali Navraj scored 96.4% in the humanities stream. She had played in various district and inter-school championships and also represented the city in national events. National-level footballer Pulkit Pannu scored 96.4% in the non-medicial stream. Besides representing the city in open national championships, Pannu had played SGFI nationals. All three are students of Chitkara International School, Sector 25.

City tennis player Radhika Vasudeva, a student of Delhi Public School, Sector 40, scored 96.2% in the humanities stream. She was the only girl from the city to participate in the Khelo India Youth Games held in Panchkula.

National-level fencer Sukhmeet Singh, a student of Government Model Senior Secondary School, Sector 10, scored 91% in the humanities stream. He had claimed gold medal in SGFI nationals and also featured in the city’s senior, junior and school national fencing teams on many occasions.

Similarly, national-level fencer Anushka Sharma, a student of Bhavan Vidyalaya, Sector 27, scored 96.2% in the medical stream. She has won gold medals at district, state and national championships. In the Panchkula State Fencing Championship last year, she had won three gold medals in U-20, U-21 and Senior categories. Arnav Kansil, also a Bhavan student, scored 94.8% in the commerce stream. A national-level shooter, he has won five gold medals in 50m free pistol, 10m air pistol junior (team), centre fire pistol (team), sports pistol 25m (team) and 10 m air pistol youth (team) events and a silver in 25m standard pistol event and a bronze in 25m sports pistol event at various inter-state championships. Yatharth Ratti, also from Bhavans, scored 98.4% in the non-medicial stream. A national-level floor football player, he had also bagged laurels in India Quiz and its state championship.

In Class X examinations, fencer Vanshika Bansal scored 99.2% marks. She had won a silver medal in U-20 state championship and gold and bronze each in district fencing championship. Long jumper Raghubir Yadav scored 93.4%. He won silver medal in the inter-state long jump event. Kritvee Sharma scored 92.4%. She is a gold medallist in the Chandigarh State Softball Tournament. All of them are students of Bhavan Vidyalaya, Sector 27.

Special cases

Angel Girdhar, a student of Shishu Niketan School, Sector 22, who is suffering from cerebral palsy, scored 80.6% in the Class XII examination. A keen learner, Angel wishes to become a successful entrepreneur. Aditya Monga, a student of Bhavan Vidyalaya, an avid lawn tennis player, overcome depression and anxiety disorders to score 97% in Class XII. Both Angel and Aditya were students of humanities.
