Over 19,000 students had applied for 13,875 seats in two counselling sessions conducted by the Chandigarh Education Department for admission to Class 11 in government schools.

The department has asked the applicants to stay updated through the Education Department website for an announcement regarding the date for third counselling. Eighty-five per cent seats are reserved for Class X students passing out from government schools in Chandigarh, while 15 per cent seats are open to students from private or other recognised schools. The compartment candidates were given the chance to apply in first counselling.

“Our policy ensures local students are prioritised while maintaining healthy academic diversity. While we understand the anxiety due to limited seats, every effort is being made to accommodate deserving students wherever possible,” a department circular said.

On Monday, some parents held a protest outside the DEO office in Sector 19, alleging discrepancies in the admission during the second counselling.

“While the number of students seeking admission continues to grow each year, the number of seats remains limited. This mismatch has led to an increased digital traffic on application portals and urgent appeals from parents seeking clarification on selection lists,” added the statement.
