It’s good news that the UT Adviser has directed the MC and other authorities concerned to implement the solid waste management and segregation rules strictly by March 31, 2020. Waste collection and disposal play an extremely important role in the global cleanliness and sustainability drive with people’s health and the conservation of resources being the responsibility of every government. To ease the pressure on government agencies, private organisations should also play positive role in waste management and recycling programmes. The MC authorities must roll-out a scheme incentivising bio-compost plants set-up by the residents and institutions. Public participation in waste collection is a big factor which must be encouraged by the authorities. Every citizen should be duty bound to segregate incinerable and non-incinerable wastes so that proper disposal can be carried out by the authorities.
