Clear entry fee dues by March 31 or face fine: UT to Ola, Uber

The UT Administration has asked the web-based taxi operators to pay the entry tax dues by March 31.
In a meeting with the representatives of Ola and Uber, UT Adviser Manoj Parida clarified that the pending government revenue has to be paid. He stated that since the entry fee in the UT was only Rs 333 per month, which was much cheaper than the neighbouring states, there should be no reason for default.
However, as a special case, it was decided that all stakeholders may be allowed to make the payment of the first two quarters of current financial year by February 15, while the remaining payment could be cleared by March 31.
He said after March 31, the Transport Department and the UT traffic police would start a special drive to penalise the defaulters.
As per the policy of the Administration, all commercial vehicles registered in other states and will have to pay the fixed entry tax of Rs 1,000 per vehicle quarterly to the State Transport Authority (STA) for entering the city.
Meanwhile, members of the Cab Operators Social Welfare Association, Mohali, today submitted a memorandum of their demands to the Secretary, State Transport Authority, UT.
The major demands of the association were parity in taxes in the tricity and hike in fare.
“The tax should be same in Mohali, Chandigarh and Panchkula and the base fare for ride (0-5km) should be reserved at Rs 100 and for further ride, Rs 15 per km should be charged,” stated the association.
The association stated that the basic fare for outstation ride of 150 km should be Rs 2,000 and additional ride should be charged at Rs 20 per km.
There should not be any parking fee at public places and there should be designated parking space for cabs.
