As part of the Swachhata Pakhwada, “Cleanliness Fortnight” campaign to make the city cleaner, cloth bags were distributed at the Sector-15 market in collaboration with Aashman Foundation, an NGO. Municipal Commissioner Aparajita led the initiative with an aim of encouraging people to replace plastic bags with cloth bags, as plastic was harmful to the environment. It pollutes surroundings and does not decompose, leading to long-term environmental damage.

Aparajita urged residents to stop using plastic bags and instead adopt cloth bags to help keep the environment clean and make the city more beautiful.

Earlier today, she launched the campaign by administering the “Swachh Bharat Harit Bharat” green pledge to all officials and staff at the Municipal Corporation office.

Under this initiative, Municipal Commissioner Aparajita, Mayor Kulbhushan Goyal, councillor Jay Kumar Kaushik and Chief Sanitation Inspector Avinash Singla went door-to-door in Sector 15 and distributed green and blue dustbins to households. The main objective was to encourage segregation of waste at the source, which makes its disposal much easier.

Aparajita also appealed to residents to use separate dustbins for different types of waste at home and to continue this practice when disposing of waste in garbage collection vehicles.

This cleanliness campaign includes various activities such as the Swachhata pledge, source segregation drives, cleanliness initiatives, theme-based campaigns like “Plastic out – Cloth in” to combat plastic pollution, seminars and training workshops, World Environment Day celebrations, clean market drives in coordination with vendor associations and a broader plastic elimination campaign.

The Swachhata campaign will continue until June 21, with the core objective of spreading the message of cleanliness and public hygiene through daily thematic activities.
