CM inaugurates Institute of Liver & Biliary Sciences at Mohali
Mohali, February 29
Punjab CM Bhagwant Mann inaugurated the Punjab Institute of Liver and Biliary Sciences at Phase 3B1 in Mohali on Thursday.
The plan to set up the institute was announced in the 2022 Budget Session. This is Punjab’s first government health institution to provide patients with state-of-the-art healthcare facilities like endoscopy, fibroscopy, and endoscopic ultrasound. Telemedicine services would also be provided to all government hospitals in Punjab by the experts of this institute.
The institute was established at a cost of over Rs 40 crore and would staff around 450 people, including 80 doctors, 150 nurses, and 200 group-D employees. Professor Virendra Singh, former head of the Department of Hepatology at PGI-Chandigarh, has been appointed the director of the institute.
The CM also inaugurated the Food and Drug Administration’s state headquarters and four zonal offices. The state headquarter office has been constructed at a cost of Rs 2.63 crore, and the zonal offices — established at Gurdaspur, Jalandhar, Bathinda, and Ferozepur — were constructed for Rs 2.78 crore.
He said four additional zonal offices would be constructed at Ludhiana, Amritsar, Patiala and Hoshiarpur.
