CM to inaugurate surveillance, traffic management system in Mohali today
Punjab Chief Minister Bhagwant Singh Mann will visit the city to inaugurate the much-awaited City Surveillance and Traffic Management System at the Sohana Police Station, Sector 79.
Later in the afternoon, Mann will head to lay the foundation stone of Sukhmani Institute of Medical Sciences and Research at Dera Bassi at 12 pm.
The September-end 2024 deadline for the city surveillance project was reset to mid-November 2024 and then to February 2025.
Marred by delays, the Punjab Police Housing Corporation project, costing Rs 17.7 crore, aims at putting the city under the surveillance of 400 CCTV cameras.
Eighteen busy junctions of the city will be monitored with cameras.
Two speed detectors, meanwhile, will also be installed on the Airport Road.
Five agencies of the government – the Punjab Police Housing Corporation (PPHC), Greater Mohali Area Development Authority, National Highways Authority of India (NHAI), Municipal Corporation and public works department (PWD) – have been struggling for almost a year to put their heads together and complete the project on time.
