The Kalka Government College on Friday held a lecture on the three new criminal laws. Law researcher Kumari Jasmine Gill shed light on the matter and said the Indian Penal Code of 1860, the Code of Criminal Procedure of 1973, and the Indian Evidence Act of 1872 had been replaced by the Indian Justice Code, 2023, the Indian Civil Defence Code, 2023, and the Indian Evidence Act, 2023.

She explained that the purpose of these changes was to modernise the criminal justice system, address contemporary challenges, and streamline judicial processes. She said, “These three laws focus on the justice system rather than punishment.”

Acting Principal Dr Gulshan Kumar and Dr Sunita Chauhan, in charge of the Women’s Cell, were present.
