Senior Congress leader and former Punjab Health Minister Balbir Singh Sidhu has strongly urged Chief Minister (CM) Bhagwant Singh Mann to immediately complete the pending health projects initiated during the previous Congress government in Mohali.

In a letter to the CM, Sidhu highlighted that a Rs 12 crore Neurology Center in Sector 79, which was initiated to treat neurological disorders, has been stalled for a long time. He expressed concern that no efforts are being made to complete this crucial project, forcing patients to travel to Post Graduate Institute of Medical Education & Research for treatment.

“The construction of an Urban Primary Health Center in Sector 79, approved with a budget of Rs 1.05 crore, has also been stalled for a long time. Similarly, the Primary Health Center in Sector 69, whose building has been completed, remains non-operational due to the absence of staff,” he said.

Sidhu also brought to the CM’s attention that Rs 6.5 crore was approved for the construction of a 50-bed ayurvedic hospital in Dayalpura Sodhian village, but no significant steps have been taken to initiate the construction. A similar situation exists with the District Hospital in Sector 66, where 8.72 acre land were allotted by Greater Mohali Area Development Authority (GMADA) in August 2021, and the foundation stone was laid by the then Chief Minister on November 9, 2021. However, even after three years, no progress has been made.

“A Primary Health Center in Saneta was approved and constructed about a year ago. However, due to the non-posting of doctors and paramedical staff, the center has not yet become operational,” he added.
