Cong: RTI Act revolutionary legislation

On the completion of 20 years of the Right to Information (RTI) Act, Chandigarh Pradesh Congress Committee president HS Lucky has hailed the law as one of the most revolutionary and empowering legislations in India’s democratic history.

He credited the Congress Party and former Prime Minister Dr Manmohan Singh’s government for giving citizens a powerful tool to ensure transparency, accountability and good governance.

“The RTI Act, brought by the Congress-led UPA government in 2005, gave every Indian the right to question the government and seek information. It was a historic step that strengthened the very roots of democracy by making the system accountable to the people,” said HS Lucky.

He added that through this act, lakhs of citizens, activists and journalists were able to expose corruption, misuse of power and inefficiency across various levels of governance.
