Continuing their protest against Home Minister Amit Shah for “disrespecting” BR Ambedkar, the city Congress workers marched from Sector 22 towards the Deputy Commissioner’s office under the leadership of HS Lucky, president of Chandigarh Congress, to submit a memorandum demanding immediate resignation of the Union minister.
The procession had barely moved 100 metres towards Aroma Chowk when the police stopped it. The police allowed five activists to reach the DC office, where SDM (Central) Naveen Rattu received the memorandum addressed to the President.
Hunger strike extended
The hunger strike being undertaken by the activists of the Chandigarh Congress to protest against the Electricity Department privatisation entered its seventh day today. It was decided to extend the fast till tomorrow.
