Congress leaders burn PM's effigy in Mohali

Mohali, June 11

The local unit of the Congress held a protest dharna and burnt an effigy of Prime Minister Narendra Modi near Chawla Petrol Pump here today to protest the rising fuel prices.

The protesters led by district unit president Jaspreet Singh Gill said even though the prices of crude oil had decreased the Centre was continuously increasing the prices of petrol and diesel to break the backbone of common man.

“The Central government increased the prices of diesel and petrol 15 times in the past one month, resulting in high inflation rate,” he said.

Deputy Mayor Kuljit Singh Bedi, Youth Congress district president Kanwarbir Singh Sidhu, and councillors Baljit Kaur, Rupinder Kaur, Pramod Mitra and Anuradha Anand also participated in the protest.

Meanwhile, the NSUI representatives led by state general secretary Rajkaran Baidwan Sohana also held a protest dharna against the rising fuel prices near Gurdwara Singh Shaheedan Sohana. They raised slogans against the Centre and also burnt an effigy of the Prime Minister.
