Constable held guilty of minor’s molestation

Quantum of sentence will be pronounced on Tuesday

The fast track special court has convicted a 32-year-old constable of the Chandigarh Police for molesting a minor girl two years ago. The quantum of sentence will be pronounced tomorrow.

The accused was booked under Section 354-A(1)(i) of the IPC and Sections 8 and 10 of the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act at the Sector 26 police station on August 11, 2023. A complaint was received on July 17, 2023, through the District Child Protection Unit.

In the complaint, it was stated that the victim, aged 16 and a resident of Chandigarh, was sexually abused by her neighbour. It was alleged that in June 2023, the victim had gone to the house of the accused on the request of her grandmother to ask him about food. The accused was consuming alcohol at his house. On noticing the child, he pushed her towards the wall and tried to force himself on her. The girl, who got terrified, managed to push him away and ran towards her house.

After hearing the arguments, the court has convicted the accused.
