Chandigarh cop run over by speeding BMW car
A constable of the Chandigarh Police was killed in a hit-and-run accident here today. The driver fled the scene in his BMW car after hitting the constable who was riding a bicycle.
The victim has been identified as Constable Anand Dev, who was posted in the communication wing.
The 32-year-old victim was riding his bicycle around 6:50 pm when the speeding BMW car hit him at the Sector 9-10 traffic lights near the Police Headquarters in Sector 9 in Chandigarh. The driver fled the scene in his car after hitting the cop.
The injured constable was rushed to the Government Multi-Speciality Hospital, Sector 16, where the doctors declared him dead on arrival.
The police have started an investigation into the accident. They are scanning the footage of the CCTV cameras installed in the area to identify the driver. The car was reportedly bearing a temporary registration number.
