Round-the-clock vigil is being maintained in the district in view of Independence Day.

Giving details, DCP Srishti Gupta said additional forces had been deployed at key locations, including intersections, busy markets, hotels, bus stands and public places, where intensive search operations were being conducted. Suspected persons were being frisked and questioned to verify their identities, she added.

As per the directions of Commissioner of Police Sibash Kabiraj, high-level security arrangements have been implemented across the district to ensure that any untoward incident is prevented in time.

The police said PCR and rider teams are on high alert, patrolling 24x7 to respond promptly to emergencies. CCTV cameras at major points are being monitored live from the Police Control Room, while officers stationed on rooftops of important buildings are using binoculars and other equipment for surveillance.

The DCP said traffic police were checking vehicles at nakas. Motorists had been asked to park only in designated areas so as not to disrupt the traffic movement.
