After receiving complaints regarding the supply of contaminated drinking water to Maloya, councillors and officials today visited the area to take stock of the situation.

Area councillor Nirmala Devi, along with Senior Deputy Mayor Jasbir Singh Bunty, Deputy Mayor Taruna Mehta, councillor Gurpreet Singh, Municipal Corporation Chief Engineer Sanjay Arora, Housing Board Chief Engineer Rajiv Singla and officials from the Water Supply and Public Health departments visited the site.

For the last three to four days, local residents had been reporting issues with the water quality. Councillor Nirmala Devi held a meeting with fellow councillors and Chief Engineer Sanjay Arora to discuss the problem in detail. Acknowledging the seriousness of the issue, the Chief Engineer visited the area along with officials and instructed the departments concerned to resolve the matter at the earliest.

It was noted that while the responsibility for rehabilitation housing and related services lay with the Housing Board, a coordination between the Municipal Corporation, UT Administration and the Housing Board was essential.

All three departments were instructed to conduct water sampling, identify the source of contamination due to leakage or sewage mixing, and carry out necessary repairs within two to three days.

It was recommended that the roads, water supply, sewage and parks in Maloya Colony — currently under the Housing Board — be transferred to the Municipal Corporation. This would allow the corporation to operate more independently and efficiently in maintaining and developing the area.
