Chandigarh: Vitality and progress of a language depends on the translation of its texts into various other languages and vice-versa. This was highlighted during deliberations of the two week-long refresher course for teachers on the theme “Culture of translation and translation of culture”, organised by the UGC-HRDC, Panjab University, which concluded here today. Prof Harmohinder Singh Bedi, Chancellor, Himanchal Pradesh Central University, Dharmshala, was the keynote speaker at the concluding session while Dr Chandra Trikha, Director, Haryana Sahitya Academy, Panchkula, was the chief guest. Prof SK Tomar, Director, HRDC was also present on the occasion. Dr Chandra Trikha highlighted the significance of translation while Prof Bedi said, “Through translation, the rich treasure of knowledge embedded in various Indian languages can be shared with the world.” Dr Gurmeet Singh presented a report at the conclusion of the course.
