COVID-19 positive patient jumps off 5th-floor of Chandigarh's Sector 32 government hospital

A 62-year-old COVID-19 positive patient allegedly committed suicide on Sunday after he jumped off the fifth-floor of Government Medical College and Hospital (GMCH), Sector 32, Chandigarh.

He was moved to the minor operation theatre with multiple fractures and a head injury, where he expired.  

However, the patient was referred to GMCH on July 31 from Sood Bhawan after he tested COVID-19 positive on July 29.

A statement issued by the hospital reads: 

"It is for your kind information, that patient chunni LAL Cr 200707624 age 62, (COVID) positive patient jumped from the gallery of area 55.

We shifted him for surgery to the minor operation theatre with multiple fractures and head injury, where expired. A safari karamchari, Rajmal, code no: 10261, opened the gallery for cleaning. At the same time Safari karamchari, observed and ran towards him to stop him, but he was too late. Around 7:15 am the patient chunni LAL jumped. He was referred from Sood Bhawan in screening OPD of gmch on 31/7/20. He was admitted with covid positive report in Sood Bhawan on 29/7/20".
