Covid fear: Traffic challan branch shut till March 31

In the wake of Covid-19, the UT traffic police have shut the challan branch in Sector 29, where traffic challans are paid. The operations at the challan branch have been suspended till March 31.

People who have already been issued challans will be given two months extension to pay the fine.

UT SSP (Traffic) Shashank Anand tweeted, “For public safety, the challan branch of Traffic Lines, Sector 29, has suspended its operations. People who have to pay fine against the challans issued to them are being given an extended period of at least two months from the date of the challan.”

The SSP stated that the challan branch would, however, continue to entertain cases of release of impounded vehicles. The facility for online payment of postal challan would be provided soon.

The SSP said the challan receipt was a valid proof of the violator’s driving licence or registration certificate, so people need not worry about getting the original documents back.

A notice has also been put outside the Traffic Lines to inform visitors about the operations being suspended to prevent the transmission of Covid.

Police officials said traffic cops had been provided with masks to ensure their safety. Police personnel in other wings were also been given special briefings.

SP (Headquarters) Manoj Kumar Meena said public entry at the Headquarters building had been restricted and masks, gloves and sanitisers had also been provided to police personnel.
