Chandigarh: Three persons, including a Covid patient, has been booked by the local police after the patient returned home from the hospital. According to the police, they received information that a corona patient, Umesh (20), a resident of Bapu Dham Colony, Sector 26, who was admitted to the Civil Hospital, Mani Majra, on April 26, returned home. The police reached the spot and found that a team of health officials was also present there. The police said Umesh’s relatives, Hemani and Raj Rani, wrongfully restrained the health team from taking the patient to the hospital. It took around five hours to take the patient back to the hospital. The police said a case under Sections 269, 270, 341 and 34 of the IPC and Section 58 of the Disaster Management Act, 2005, has been registered at the Sector 26 police station. TNS

Appeal for blood donation

Chandigarh: In view of the recent surge in Covid-19 cases, outdoor voluntary blood donation camps of the Department of Transfusion Medicine, PGI, have decreased. Therefore, in order to cope with the blood supply to thalassaemia, blood cancer and other cancer patients on chemotherapy as well as medical/surgical and obstetrics emergencies, the Department of Transfusion Medicine, PGI, has appealed to society to donate blood, either individually or in small groups at the blood donation centre at the Advanced Trauma Centre, PGI, from 9 am to 5 pm on all working days and holidays. Blood donation camps held

Chandigarh: The Competent Foundation organised blood donation camps at various places across the region on the occasion of Hanuman Jayanti on Tuesday. The camps were held at Ambala, Chandigarh, Sangrur, Sunam, Shimla and Mohali and 769 units of blood were collected. Union Health Minister Harsh Vardhan was the chief guest for the event while Anurag Thakur, Minister of State for Finance, was the guest of honour. The duo joined the campaign online. TNS

Bag with laptops stolen from bus

Chandigarh: An unknown person stole a bag containing two laptops, an iPhone, a passport and some documents. Dr Ranbir Singh, a native of Hamirpur, Himachal Pradesh, reported that his bag was stolen from a bus at the ISBT-43 on April 24. A case has been registered. TNS

SAP award

Mohlai: The Rayat Bahra University (RBU) has won the 'One District One Green Champion' Award under the Swachhta Action Plan (SAP) 2020-21. The award is given by Mahatma Gandhi National Council of Rural Education. Chancellor Gurvinder Singh Bahra said the award was the outcome of a string of initiatives undertaken by the university. These included regular sanitisation of campus in Covid-19 situation, thermal screening of every person and maintaining social distancing norms. TNS

Chandigarh: An unknown person stole a door, a washbasin, pipes, a door closer and a mirror from the Sukhna Wildlife Sanctuary on April 8. On the complaint of Debendra Dalai, Chief Conservator of Forests and Chief Wildlife Warden, a case has been registered. TNS

Jewellery stolen from house

Chandigarh: An incident of theft was reported at a house in Raipur Khurd. Complainant Chander Parkash reported that gold jewellery was stolen from the almirah of his house. A case has been registered at Mauli Jagran police station. TNS
