Chandigarh, April 19

Yesterday, DDRs were filed against Tiwana water tanker and a private contractor of Kajheri village.

A team of MC engineers inspected sites at Daria village and found three establishments — Mahadev Service Station, Hare Krishna Service Station and Manu Service Auto Centre —washing cars and other commercial vehicles at the site. The team immediately disconnected their water supply and lodged DDRs with the police.

The team also removed the borewell at Tiwana Tankers in Kajheri village and lodged a DDR against the owner.

As part of its drive to prevent unnecessary extraction of groundwater, the MC also identified nearly eight tubewells outside laldora at Dadu Majra village, Dadu Majra colony, Kajheri village, Kishangarh, Daria, Dhanas and Sarangpur, which were filling water in tankers to be supplied to public for drinking and other purposes.

The MC has taken up the matter with the Chief Engineer, UT, to check for permission for tubewells and take necessary action accordingly.

The team has proposed the closure of 17 tubewells in the city.
